SPONSOR-A-CAT

In 1996, Animal Protection Bergen began to work with the large number of stray cats living in and around the city of Bergen.  It is our belief that all animals have the right to a decent life, and this includes stray cats!  With this in mind, we set up the City Cat Project.

The project set up small ‘houses' around Bergen, known as feeding stations, where there were stray cats in need of food, water and a warm place to stay.

ImageThe stray cats were then collected and taken to a vet to be spayed or neutered, to prevent the birth of further wild cats.  They also received medical treatment where required.  A number of cats were suitable for re-homing and so were taken to our cat rescue centre.  Unfortunately, many of the cats were unsuitable to be re-homed as they had lived wild for so long and would not thrive in a home environment.  They were released again at their respective stations, ear-marked with the number 007.  This was to identify the cats that were and are today, our responsibility.

Despite the fact that Animal Protection Bergen continuously encourages owners to spay or neuter their cats, new scared, hungry and abandoned cats continue to arrive at the feeding stations.

The stations need to be maintained to ensure that these cats are cared for.  Sponsoring a cat is a great way to help these unfortunate animals.  For only 50 kr a month, you can help pay for veterinary bills, food and maintenance of the feeding stations.
